When you order an ELO boost you'll be asked to pick between two formats: solo boost (booster plays alone on your account) or duo boost (booster plays alongside your account). They produce the same end result — a higher rank — but they get there differently, at different costs, with different tradeoffs. This guide tells you which one is right for you.
What Each One Is
Solo Boost
The booster logs into your account and plays solo queue alone. You don't play; you don't queue. The booster is in 100% control of the games. This is the standard, default ELO boost format and what most people picture when they think of buying a boost.
Duo Boost
You and the booster queue together as a duo from your accounts. The booster stays on their high-MMR account, you stay on yours, and you play side by side as a duo in solo/duo ranked queue. The booster's presence in your games drastically raises your team's win rate.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Factor | Solo Boost | Duo Boost |
|---|---|---|
| Account access | Booster logs into your account | You stay logged in to yours |
| You play? | No | Yes — every game |
| Speed | Faster | Slower |
| Win rate | ~85–95% | ~70–80% |
| Cost | Cheaper per division | ~30–50% more expensive |
| Risk profile | Account is logged in elsewhere | Account never leaves your hands |
| Skill learning | Optional (watch streams) | Live every game |
Which is Actually Faster?
Solo boost wins on raw speed. The booster is a high-elo player playing on a low-MMR account, which means roughly 85–95% win rate. They can finish a 4-division boost in 2–4 days of focused play.
Duo boost is slower for a simple reason: you're in the games. Even with a high-elo booster carrying, the team has 4 random teammates and one player (you) who isn't at the booster's level. The booster pulls win rate up to ~70–80%, but that's still meaningfully below solo boost's pace. A duo boost typically takes 1.5–2× as long for the same rank gain.
Which is Cheaper?
Solo boost is cheaper. The reason is simple: time. Boosters charge based on the work involved, and a slower 70% win rate boost costs more in their hours than a faster 90% win rate boost. Duo boosts typically run 30–50% above the equivalent solo boost price for the same rank target.
If price is the deciding factor and you don't care about the other tradeoffs, solo boost wins. You can compare exact prices for both options on our Pricing page using the order calculator.
Which is Safer?
This is where duo boost has its biggest advantage. The general safety landscape:
Solo boost safety
The booster needs your login credentials and plays from their location, on their hardware. Reputable boosting services use VPNs matched to your geography, mask the activity, and don't make account changes — but the account is still being accessed remotely. Modern boosting is generally safe when handled by a reputable service, but the risk profile is non-zero.
Duo boost safety
Your account never leaves your hands. You play every game from your usual location, your usual hardware, your usual login. Riot sees nothing unusual about the account itself — it just sees you queuing with a high-MMR friend. From a detection-risk standpoint, duo boost is essentially indistinguishable from playing with a smurf friend.

💡 The safety insight: If account safety is your top concern — for example, the account has rare skins or significant gameplay history — duo boost meaningfully reduces risk because the account stays on your side throughout.
Which Helps You Improve?
Duo boost wins this one decisively. You're playing every game with a Master+ player as your duo partner. Over 30+ games together you'll absorb things that no coaching session can teach as efficiently:
- Ward placement timing and spots specific to your role
- When to fight vs when to disengage in real-time scenarios
- Mid-game tempo decisions and rotation triggers
- How a high-elo player tilt-controls and resets
- Champion-specific tricks for whatever you're playing
Solo boosts can include education if the booster streams the games and you watch — most reputable services offer this. But it's passive, second-hand learning. Duo boost is direct, in-the-moment learning while you play. For a structured comparison of boosting against pure coaching, see our coaching vs ELO boosting guide.
The Verdict
Pick solo boost if:
- You want the rank as fast and cheap as possible
- You don't have time to play every day
- You don't care about learning during the boost
- You trust the boosting service's safety practices
Pick duo boost if:
- Account safety is paramount (rare skins, valuable cosmetics, long history)
- You want to keep playing during the order
- You want to actually learn while climbing
- You want to retain the rank long-term and need the skill development to do so
- You can spend extra for the lower risk and learning value
Most players who care about the rank purely as an outcome pick solo boost. Most players who care about the rank as part of a longer League journey pick duo boost. Both formats are available on our Pricing page with instant calculator pricing.
