Why These Runes?
Lethal Tempo stacks attack speed quickly and synergizes with Yi's E (true damage procs) and R. Triumph heals on kills keeping you alive through chained teamfight resets. Legend: Alacrity adds more attack speed that compounds with your items. Coup de Grace deals 8% more damage to enemies below 40% HP — perfect for finishing off targets and securing kills in teamfights. Cash Back gives you a 10% discount on your first completed item — effectively free gold that helps you hit your Kraken Slayer spike faster. Triple Tonic triples the effect of your first Smite and potions, keeping you healthy through early clears without burning extra gold on consumables.

Kraken Slayer

Rageblade

Guardian Angel
Situational Picks
Blade of the Ruined King
Mercurial Scimitar
Sterak's Gage
Why This Build?
Kraken Slayer is your first major item — the true damage every third hit shreds tanks and bruisers. Rageblade second immediately doubles your on-hit effects and attack speed, letting Kraken Slayer proc constantly. Wit's End third adds magic damage on-hit and magic resist, making you durable against AP while compounding everything Rageblade already doubled. Death's Dance and Guardian Angel round out your survivability so you can actually survive long enough to deal your damage.
Blade of the Ruined King is great against high-HP tanks. Mercurial Scimitar if the enemy has a suppression or hard CC that stops your R. Sterak's Gage when you're getting burst before you can fight back.

How to Play Master Yi to Win Games
Master Yi is a late-game hypercarry. His entire game plan is the same every match: farm efficiently, hit your item spikes, then clean up teamfights. Here's how to execute that perfectly.
Early Game · Levels 1–9
🌱
Farm Fast, Gank Smart
Full clear your jungle every respawn. Skip risky early ganks — a full clear beats a failed gank in both XP and gold. Only gank when the enemy is overextended and your Q can guarantee a kill. Your goal is Kraken Slayer by ~15 minutes.
Mid Game · First Item Spike
⚔️
Take Every Dragon
Once you have Kraken Slayer, you solo Dragon faster than almost any other jungler. Make dragon your #1 priority after every clear. Magical Footwear saves you ~300 gold on boots — dump that into your second item faster. Two items = fight mode.
Teamfighting
🎯
Wait, Then Explode
The #1 Yi mistake is going in too early and eating all the CC. Let your frontline initiate first. When enemy CC is spent, flash or Q to the backline, activate R, and chain kills with the reset. Never use R before the enemy blows their CC.
Target Priority
👁️
Kill the Carry, Not the Tank
Your E true damage cuts through anyone, but deleting the ADC or mid laner ends the fight in 2 seconds. Use Q to jump over the frontline and land directly on the backline. Once the carry is dead, R resets let you clean up the rest with no counterplay.
Quick cheat sheet: Full clear → Dragon priority → Wait for CC to be spent → Q into backline → R for resets. That's every winning Master Yi game in one sentence.
Hard Matchups & How to Handle Them
Elise
High Threat
Her E cocoon stuns you mid-fight, cancelling your R resets. She out-duels you early when you have no items, and her rappel makes her untargetable — your Q won't lock onto her.
Counter: Avoid early duels. Ward her camps and track her. Fight only post-Kraken when you can burst her before she cocoons you.
Rammus
High Threat
Thornmail + his passive reflects your own damage back at you the more you attack. His taunt forces you to keep hitting him while you destroy yourself. His Q engage is nearly impossible to outrun.
Counter: Build Blade of the Ruined King — % HP on-hit bypasses his armor. Never fight him alone in his jungle. Focus objectives over 1v1s.
Shaco
High Threat
His boxes fear you on approach, breaking your attack chain. He invades early when you're weak, stealing your camps and setting you behind before the game starts.
Counter: Start on the opposite side of the map from him. Buy Control Wards to clear boxes. Save R until after his clone splits — it's easy to hit the real one then.
General tip: In low ELO, champion counters matter far less than macro mistakes. Even in losing matchups, you can win by outfarming, taking objectives, and fighting on your terms rather than the enemy's.
